Moscow’s current City Development Master Plan up to 2020 envisages a comprehensive solution focused on further improvement of the city infrastructure, including construction of modern residential facilities, development of infrastructure for service provision and trade, and renovating and expanding the transport and communications systems. The Plan also focuses on attracting investments, creating new jobs and developing tourism infrastructure, including a specific plan for significantly increasing the number of international standard hotel rooms.
A particular emphasis is made on the development of sports infrastructure that serves the purposes of both professional sports and interests of the general public. The Moscow strategic plans provide for renovation of existing sports sites and construction of new venues as well. By 2020, the total area under the city sports facilities will increase four-fold from 1.7 to 6.7 million square metres. Our preparation plans for the 2012 Games are in strict conformity with the Moscow City long-term development strategy. They principally involve renovation of existing venues and to a lesser extent, new construction. Additional infrastructure required solely for the Games will constitute only a minor share in the city’ investment programme (specific data is given in respective themes of the Candidature File).
