A wide-ranging transport-related programme aimed to introduce intelligent information technologies and install up-to-date communication equipment has been developed and is now implemented in Moscow. By 2012, the entire public transport fleet will be equipped with global positioning systems providing for constant identification of each vehicle location. Devices to maintain communication with the transport and traffic management command and control centre will be also in place. Furthermore, each vehicle will have a special «alarm button» enabling immediate notification of any emergency along with relevant on-route positioning. The transport and traffic management command and control centre will have the city’s electronic map with all «Olympic routes» and alternative paths indicated. It will be also provided with the necessary technical resources to timely accumulate, monitor and transmit the essential information regarding weather changes, traffic jams, road accidents, etc. Additional digital video systems will be installed along the routes to serve this purpose. Traffic and transport services staff will take full advantage of the state-of-the-art wireless communications systems and dedicated vehicles.

Security arrangements form an integral part of the successful implementation of the Olympic Transport Plan. Accordingly, this will have a direct impact on the preparation of the city transport infrastructure for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
